Halloween dinner party

This date in the diary is a great excuse to get creative with your pumpkins and have some fun with your table centres..

Styles & colour schemes

This one is one that you can work with the tablewear you have at home or can hire in for your event. I failed art so plurlease don’t tell me you can’t do this one. All you need is some white paint and the follow a similar pattern to what’s on your plates. If they are striped do stripes.. Everything ties in beautifully and it makes you look like a domestic goddess.

Halloween dinner party

I saw this on Casa De Perrin. Yes again! and decided to try it. Of course theirs is better but I had fun building this tablescape and so did our guests so that’s all that matters.

Chalk and cheese! Uber chic and modern. Why not add something funky to your pumpkins to match your cutlery. These are munchkin pumpkins they are a beautiful shape & accentuated when spray painted gold. I do love black and gold so this one is the winner for me.

Inspiration for styling events

Styling an event

I was asked by my web developer where I get my inspiration for styling events from when we were trawling through a million photo’s of – & I admit  some whacky events.

I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised that people will be curious on how it all comes together because for the last 10+ years when people ask what I do for a living and I say event designer, it’s met with ooh’s & ahh’s & how cool is that. And I think it is to be fair.

Let’s start with this one..

Where is all starts

This started off with a cream dresser and I wanted to fit a small story into this. First place I went & where I go with every styling enquiry is Pinterest. I spend a good hour there trawling through compiling the right look for the project.

building the theme

When you read my last post (pardon – go read it now please!) you’ll know I’m into greenery so this design had to have lush large green leaves incorporated into the design. This year I got quite into dusky pink when mixed with a smidgen of peach. The blog post before.. Yes correct!

Stick with what you want to do

I didn’t want to go tropical here (even though everyone was telling me to use the word tropical as a title for the key words YAWN!)  but instead wanted to keep it a bit different a bit newer. After all I can’t do what has been done before me so other than the pineapples  because I like them I was sticking with the simplicity of matt powdery pink & shiny green leaves. So plants on pink is my favourite title and if it’s not a key word then I’m sorry.

Inspiration

So here’s a few images that got me going..

plants on pink

You just cannot beat a cheese plant for impact. This is why I have cupcakes, Macarons & cookies in it.

plants on pink

I want to paint all my walls this colour with a garden full of bird of paradise but this also means I need to live somewhere hotter than South West London! Ho hum

bold plants

I did paint a few of the leaves but the tones here are bang on.

This plant actually grows with pink shades going through it. Natural beauty.

Rounding the design up

So once I have my colour and my hero feature it’s now about adding the right props. Don’t add to many so it looks cluttered but enough to keep the interest. I don’t like to use too many colours in any one design when I’m styling events.

Finished design

This piece, now designed, is fully hireable as one piece for weddings & events. Clients can carry the design straight into their home. A bit like pouring a ready meal into your own ikea dishes and putting it into the oven for your guests to marvel at your handy work. You’re welcome. Have a look here for other designs. At some point in the near future, when I’ve leant the skill of adding a few more hours to the week. There will be a collection of these one stop shop designs.

When the piece is finished I’m always wishing I had ‘just done that’ . In this case I wish I had shoehorned a few more Monstera leaves around the balloons. There’s always next time.

Actually the next one I want to work on involves more cacti & plants in a cool Mexican vibe..

I mean just look at these. If anyone wants to help me fulfil this desire to design something around this gorgeous look do step forward &

A few of my favourite things 2016 – Concrete & Marble

So 2015 flew by in a haze of copper for me .. But mid year I had time for a spot of Terrarium action. After a trip to Japan in April I had a vision of a minimalist dessert station of hanging globes full of succulents. This went well with a gentle persuasion for my husband to design a green tea sprayed dessert. One of my other fascinations. Well any effect created with a chocolate spray gun. (green & red being the current faves!) This is one all ready for the desserts by Bubble food.

Here is the same perspex food station design full of desserts at Kensington Palace. terrarium

Now this year I’m obsessed with concrete & marble & I’m adding those materials to more succulents… The only thing is the first two are just a tad heavy..and anyone in events will know that puts me to the bottom of the Christmas card list with the warehouse packing and loading vans for events.

Now what’s just perfect is how well copper goes with the above two medium too. Here a mixture of Copper with Succulents thrown in with marble & lovely cool matt grey concrete to whet your appetite. Doesn’t it just feel calming..

I created a food station with fresh white Marble and geometric copper bowls with tea light holders like the last picture here and it looked gorgeous. Sadly no photos allowed from this one. So the above moodboard will help you to imagine.

So look out for my food stations of 2016 to include of course – Marble, concrete, succulents to add contrast & life & lastly just a touch of  shiny copper for a bit of warmth not too much this year or people will think I have a copper mine..

Copper feel

We just love things that shine and currently we are loving gold, rose gold and copper. It’s just so pleasing. I created this moodboard last March in the hope that someone would give me free rein for some fun with all things shiny.

copper and rose gold

Hurrah.. They did… I got to work on a Steampunk-esque copper meat-molecular-carvery food station !!! Well I didn’t have anything to do with the meat myself but instead off I went sourcing pieces of shiny copper from DIY shops. It’s now grown from 6 foot station to an 18 foot one and add new bits as I go.
